Possible new TVs

Particularly interested in:

General picture quality
How well displays legacy SD material
How well displays legacy 2D material
Sound quality
Whether SCART has RGB in

At this stage not particularly interested in:
3D

These are what JL suggested from the usual box ticking exercise -
perhaps would have preferred a range of makes, but all the results
were Samsung, here are the most likely two:

Are the Samsungs the ones with the gesture and voice control, so you can
look and sound like a prat while you watch it?

My relative bought two 3D sets but not for 3D use as he says they get better
pictures on 2D which he views on.
Do others think the same way?

BUT a warning: I was going to get a bigger TV last year for thr Olympiad
(around 46" - 50"); after reading the forums I still haven't got one!
As for 3D: wasn't a requirement but it's difficult to get a
mid-to-high-range TV without it. After much research I decided that passive
3D would be preferable. The LG looked good but have some ongoing problems;
the Philips "PHILIPS 2012 - All Series (xxPFLxx07)" (title of topic) are now
begining to look OK.

John Lewis in Oxford Street were displaying an 84" LG set if you want a
really big screen. Mind you, it cost as much as a large family car.

only in that a tv with 3d feature is likely to be one of the higher end
sets to begin with - so it's not better as a result of the 3d feature
exactly - coincidence.

My old 24" WS CRT lasted a goodly few years. I changed to the present 37"
Sammy for some reason - oh yes, a bigger screen.
