Default Remote Control cleaning

In the BBC Holiday program last night they said the TV RC in a hotel was
worse than the toilet for deadly germs.

So how do we clean Remotes without breaking them?

A) At home

B) In hotel rooms.

Regards
David

hotels - take a clear plastic bag with you, put the remote control in it
before using :-).

Generally, I've used the screen wipes which used to be popular for cleaning
CRT screens, or a damp ear-bud cleaner for getting between the keys. More
disgusting is the grease and crap that gets inside them. My old Sony remote
seemed to attract this terribly (so much so I sometimes wondered if the keys
were actually leaking oil somehow!) and periodically I'd have to crack the
case and clean all the backs of the keys and the contacts.

I always thought that was the plasticiser leeching out of the rubber.

I cleaned one recently that had got dirty from spilling various drinks
on it. Just used a brush dipped in Methylated spirits. It still works.

Oh, just lick it clean; it's far easier.

Ah, don't worry about it, its healthy to be exposed to normal bugs.

However if you are paranoid l I don't advise reading hitch hikers guide to
the universe.
The main issues seem to be that the keys are membranes and hence easy to
destroy with fluids.

If you wrap them in clingfilm they never need cleaning.

Cut out a square of clingfilm and lay it on a surface, put
the remote face down in the middle and pull the clingfilm
tight round the back and over the top and bottom and scrunch
it up. After a bit of practice its possible to use a double
layer which lasts much longer.

B) In hotel rooms.

Wear very thick, industrial type gloves, or summon a member of
the hotel staff to do it for you.
