Prise one open and check with a voltmeter to see if it's true.

Well its too bloody cold today. as we I am sure know, there are the big
ones often two of them which hum at 50 hertz and are quite plainly live, and
then there are the ones which are basically connection terminations from
houses into the main trucking running down the road., these are not usually
live unless you count the 50 volts from the lines.

It ought to be in Braille as well, because of all the blind yobs.

There are two poles in our garden, carrying the overhead power to our
house. They are not readily accesible to the public and we are pretty
out of the way. A few months ago a couple of men came around and said
that they had to attach bright yellow warning signs to these poles,
which have been there unadorned for at least 40 years. What a
pointless, wasteful excercise.

My parents have an electricity pole in their back garden. Same happened
with theirs. Once the blokes had departed, my mother fetched a ladder
and can of brown paint, and painted over the sign.

If a child trying to retrieve a kite gets injured or killed, they could
have civil responsibility, unless there are physical measures to make
the danger inaccessible to children. If someone is injured or killed
trying to steal the copper in the "telephone" wires, they could also
have civil responsibility (whilst the criminal intent might reduce the
damages, they only have to prove that they thought they were phone wires
on the balance of probabilities).

Also, these days, when you move on, you cannot rely on people having a
sufficient understanding of the technology around them to know what
wires and pipes connected to their newly purchased/rented home actually
carry.

FFS. Do you think any of those people are going to be bothered to read
a sign 10 feet off the ground and take action on it?. The cables are
230V and insulated; even if a child was foolish enough to try and fly
a kite (totally impractical in the actual location) they wouldn't come
to any harm.

Although there are some stupid people around, I don't have your
contempt for other peoples understanding.

It's undoubtedly a bureaucratic excercise in back protection; that
does not make it worth doing.
