Default Partial Freeview blackout

I have just learned that several places in this and surrounding
villages have had no Freeview reception since Christmas time. It seems
to be random houses, whereby one building is ok, but the neighbour has
no reception. Generally, reception is good from Tacolneston, and at
least one of the affected places is on the top of a hill, with possibly
line-of-sight to the transmitter, if you had powerful enough binoculars.
They are erecting wind turbines not far away........
Any ideas what could be going on to create such localised null points?

Does a Re-scan or RE-set of the receiving equipment put it right?
I'm regularly asked to do new scans .

David

Surprised people done without for over a month.

Probably not ... But have you a mobile mast nearby transmitting 4G mobile?

Its the aliens.
Actually could it be that the weather has affected certain installations
done, shall we say less than robustly?

I can suggest that to the fella who told me, his being one of the
affected sets. I see him on most Tuesdays.
I don't recall a rescan being needed at Christmas, though, which is
when he says this started. But we keep on getting them, and I have one
set that has not been rescanned for the last due one, and the only
thing different about that is that it has Dave and Yesterday on each
other's old channel numbers, certainly not a lack of signal.

No idea. How would I find out?
There is presumably some website that shows these mast locations, so a
link would be much appreciated.
I assume you mean a stationary mast transmitting 4G mobile, rather
than one wandering around the countryside?

Aliens? Well, there was a Full Moon recently.......
I know it's not definitive, but I had a look at the aerial of the guy
who told me about this, from the ground, and it looked like a pretty
good installation.
But it is always possible.

Ok, I found the Sitefinder website. There are three masts in the
locality:
1.Name of Operator O2
Operator Site Ref. 32237
Station Type Macrocell
Height of Antenna 16.25 Metres
Frequency Range 900 MHz
Transmitter Power 17.69 dBW
Maximum licensed power 32 dBW
Type of Transmission GSM

2.Name of Operator Vodafone
Operator Site Ref. 35577
Station Type Macrocell
Height of Antenna 15 Metres
Frequency Range 900 MHz
Transmitter Power 25.8 dBW
Maximum licensed power 32 dBW
Type of Transmission GSM

3.Name of Operator Orange
Operator Site Ref. SUF0147
Station Type Macrocell
Height of Antenna 19 Metres
Frequency Range 1800 MHz
Transmitter Power 27.9 dBW
Maximum licensed power 32 dBW
Type of Transmission GSM

What would I look for in this table to show a 4G station?

I thought 4G transmissions on the 800 MHz band had not started yet. I
understand EE have been permitted to use the 900 MHz band. Will this
affect television reception?

I've not yet seen a timetable showing what bases will go live, when. I
suspect some will come into early use if only for 'test' purposes. If
anyone knows of a list, please point to it!

Yes. Estimates are the order of a million homes will be affected by 4G. The
estimates are pretty unreliable. But the details of the transmissions make
clear that those living 'near' a base station are likely to have their
reception 'affected'. Which may mean a blank TV screen.

Slainte,

Jim
