I'd love to meet you IRL and buy you a pint.
Where are you? What's your mobility like?

You aren't a Private Eye reader.

That maybe the case, so they may well have to do without TV then ?

Digital terrestrial TV does not cover 100% of the population today.
The small minority who watched analogue terrestrial TV and were unable
to get digital terrestrial TV had to switch to satellite. In other
words, satellite is already considered to be an acceptable back-up.

No doubt mobile broadband (4G, 5G or whatever) will become much
improved over the next decade. This could mean that TVs will have SIM
cards in them instead of tuners.

So if terrestrial TV is switched off because mobile broadband becomes
fast, reliable and cheap enough in almost all areas, the unserved
areas can again turn to satellite.

Do you know of a location where analogue worked and DTT doesn't? I haven't come across one. I've come across plenty where the opposite is true though.

Possibly. But in the best tradition of Humpty Dumpty *I* meant it to
indicate that I was confused by Martin's comment that Bill "aren't a
Private Eye reader" in the same way that Manuel in Fawlty Towers was
often confused by Basil's comments.

PS
Is it possible to buy a Yorkshireman a [singular] pint? It's nigh on 40
years since I spent much time there but IIRC one rarely got off so
lightly if one owed a Yorkshireman "a drink". Mind you, I'd gladly chip
in for Bill's second/third/umpteenth pint.

I know that.

My remark was about Martins comment too, even though the strict
linearity of the thread wasn't observed.

Could be Cockney rhyming slang I suppose.

A very kind and generous offer, and one which I'd like to accept. Could I have your card details so I can order another 80 pints of bottle conditioned ale from Marks and Spencer?

Bah! Humbug!

Just goes to prove my original point that if you offer to buy a
Yorkshireman a pint - in this case his second or third or umpteenth pint
[singular] - he'll look to get best part of his an evening's beer out of
you )
