Hi Brian,

Sorry if you already knew this,

There is now a Freesat box that supports Audio Description.

Its the Goodmans GFSAT101SD and available at quite a few places for
around £5 quid.

I recall some discussion earlier about the demise of a company that sold
AD freeview boxes and I got the impression that AD capable boxes were
not easy to get hold of....

Incidentally, do any of Virgin Media's boxen support AD?

Stephen.

OK Pung.
The goodmans is probably the end of the run that I have here, its called the
smart talk and cost 40 via the switchover folk. The problem is, as has been
discussed here before I think is that boxes of this type have a problem
where the AD vanishes every few minutes and requires reselection. Apparently
the synchronisation goe out of whack and the box seems to be completely
unaware of this. I also have a Net gem with the same issues. RNIB seem to
now be promoting their ex TVonics recorders again, so one supposes they
have found a way to get more made somehow despite the company being in
receivership.
I would though, like someone to tell me one way or the other whether the AD
on modern boxes with the hd chipset in them does actually retain AD
throughout a progrm. At present it can be about 8 times it needs to be reset
with the annoyance factor of you only noticing when you don't know what is
going on any more.

So what is thecurrent situation on AD stability in hd boxes and sets?

Brian
