This is important to me as I watch most recordings away from the main TV. If your TV's in other rooms have HD freeview recievers then all you need to do is pass TV RF to them, if not add HD Freeview STBs to them. See the text quoted above. He wants to watch programs recorded on the main TV's box in other rooms. Richard Umm... HDMI leads with amps are good for up to 30 meters, and with Cat5 converters are OK up to 250 meters, so maybe run them to the other rooms? Steve Terry Thanks folks. The current system suits us. I only want one central recorder otherwise I'll end up with the recordings stored in the wrong rooms and I won't be able to watch the same recordings in other parts of the house. I have Marmitek Powermid remote extenders to control everything and when I rewired the house 8+ years ago I added about 300m of PF100 co-ax wired to each room with a head end in the side loft. It works perfectly and I don't want to disturb it all adding HDMI or Cat5. The current 5 year old Sky+ box has a grinding noise (fan or hard disc?) and if I can't improve it I'll try to get Sky to provide a replacement. In the past they've replace hardware FOC when I've threatened to cancel my subscription. If I do have to cancel I'll look for a Freeview+ recorder with RF modulator or Scart socket. In truth, recording HD doesn't worry me too much as my wife can't tell the difference between Freeview SD and HD on a 47" set, and I tend to watch all my recordings via RF elsewhere in the house! There's an alternative to RF. Humax recorders now come with plug-and-play media server that will deliver recorded content to a variety of devices, including "Smart" TVs, laptops, tablets and other STBs. You can still use "RF"(WiFi) but you don't need dedicated wires. |

That is what I did, since my preferred HD PVR (Humax) doesn't have a modulator. However as others have said no 'combining' is required so long as your modulator has both a UHF input and output; you just loop the aerial feed through it (exactly as you would if the PVR had its own modulator). What really impresses me is how well the Humax downconverts HD to SD PAL so it can output baseband video to feed the modulator, at the same time as sending Full HD to the telly via HDMI. Do all HD boxes do ?this? Richard. http://www.rtrussell.co.uk/ Many thanks. I swore I'd never have a Humax after a dust up with them, but if they fit Scart sockets I'll have a look. Took the Sky box to pieces and cleaned and lubed the fan. Now I know it's definitely the hard disc dying! |
