Default New TV for the bedroom

I am in the market for a new TV. Do any of them come with built in
support to connect with the Internet like WDTV live and stream
Youtube? Being able to play AVI from a USB stick is also a must. Do
any play MKV?

Anyone have one they recommend? Because of the wide view area I want
for the TV, I would really like to get another plasma. It is a
bedroom so I am guessing around 42 inch will be about right.

I've got one I would not recommend.... -)

Vizio Razor.

It works... but the PIP implementation is just plain sloppy.

Just like TVs with built in DVD, I'd strongly vote against such an
acquisition. Get an external device which accommodates various media
and their formats which will plug in to *any* TV. We're using Western
Digital devices, about $100 - the same increment, or less, you'll find
for these features built in to the TV - and Dune devices, which are
pricier ($300+ when we bought ours) and larger, like BD player sized,
while the WD devices are shirt pocket size.

The only down side for either being the extra AC plug and a connection
cable to the TV. I don't keep up on this stuff, so don't know what WD
and Dune are offering now, but in WD's case, wireless connection to the
router required someone else's adapter; Dune, on another hand, had this
as an internal option. Never-the-less, for both this was an extra cost.

The Dune devices we have do not support NetFlix and Amazon, though I've
not looked for, nor updated, their firmware for well over a year. The
WD devices do. Other than that sort of streaming, both support just
about every a/v codec you're likely to need. And when codecs are
required, chances are the source is on your PC or a memory chip or an
optical disc. Be sure that your newfangled TV can deal with these
sources too.

Oh Pete, we know you find PIP to be pleasurable, you've written so so
many, many, . . . dare I add . . . many?, times; but in our (her and my)
case - and perhaps the cases of some or *many* others - we record
everything before watching. So, that *edginess* of "when will they"
announce, show, hint at, or completely blow the thing I'm so much more
interested in than what I'm presently watching just does not seem to
come up here. Not in the least suggesting that it should not be
important to you, merely that it may not be important to some, maybe
most, perhaps even all, others. BFG (big f...ing grin)

I think that's sound advice. Case closed.
Thanks

- They do not recognize the same inputs on each one

- When the device is turned off and then back on again,
it does not resume the state it was in when turned off

- No means of getting sound from the small pip

All of which may seem totally moot to most people. But if you
really use PIP they make sense.

Our RCA CRT TV did it right.

Per the dog from that film you saw:

On a daily basis I flip between ABC's Evening News (live) and PBS
News Hour (buffered semi-realtime) every night depending on
commercials and what's of interest. I get to consume essentially
all of each show during the same hour-or-so and haven't seem more
than 20 seconds of a commercial in years.... to the point where I
suspect I may be losing touch with that part of the world... -)

But in support of your take, I asked a salesman why PIP was so
hard to find and his reply was something like "Hardly anybody
wants it.".
