Default Getting rid of Red Button 'dog'

One of the advantages of FTA satellite receivers is that one
is never ever troubled by "red button" apparitions defacing
the picture.

I suspect on most IDTVs/STBs you can't turn it off, at best it will vary
wildly from one device to the next, buried under advanced settings menu,
I can disable it on MythTV but generally don't bother.

The only box I've had where I've found a setting to switch off MHEG was
the Daewoo Freeview VCR. That is now sadly out of use because it can't
handle a split-NIT.

Isn't the correct solution a campaign to make the BBC turn it off
after (say) 10 seconds.
It eventually disappears on VirginMedia, so why not Freeview ?

Personally, I think it's an outrageous "pushing" of Red-Button.

It seems to vary. I've just looked at BBC1, BBC2, CBBC, CBeebies, BBC
News and BBC Parliament on Freesat boxes and on Freeview TVs and STBs.

At this time (mid-afternoon) -

Freesat:
There seems to be no text service on CBBC or CBeebies and therefore
no logo.
On BBC1, BBC2, BBC News and BBC Parliament the Red-button logo appears
and goes away after 10 seconds.

Freeview:
No Red-button logo on BBC1, BBC2 and BBC Parliament.
The Red-button logo is permanent on BBC News.
The channel-specific Red-button logo on CBBC is permanent.
The channel-specific Red-button logo on CBeebies lasts 30 seconds.

This may vary with time of day. I'll keep my eyes open.

Also an advantage of recording things to DVD to watch them later. (No idea
if HD recorders also suppress 'red button' for recordings.)

Slainte,

Jim

The Topfield PVR has the facility to switch off MHEG.

A facility added after a BBC MHEG update disaster resulted in boxes
locked in a crash-reboot failure.

On the Sammy, it's turning off text services - then there's no Red Button
function! At least on Freesat the DOG appears for about 5s then goes.
