Default hearing loop system for domestic TV?

Hi all,

I have a SAMSUNG UE40D5520 40" Full HD LED TV

I use NHS Hearing aids that have the hearing loop system.

Would anyone know if a home installation system of a loop system give
reasonable quality sound?

The kit I have found so far is: RS Domestic Induction Loop Amplifier Kit RS
stock no: 466-1592 made by Signet around £141.00

I would have liked to have been able to try a system, but where?

Mick.

Contact the RNID . My wife used to work for them and they supply this
sort of thing all the time. They have several and you may even get it free.

FWIW my father uses an IR transmitter/headset to do this. I wired it into
his Sky box because we found that the SCART output on his TV didn't work
when fed via an HDMI socket but this has the advantage that he can have the
TV on silent whilst watching so he doesn't disturb his wife.

I'd avoid anything fed directly from a microphone - my father tried this at
first but kept deafening his wife when he turned the volume up.

For other loops, have a look he

I'd also suggest that if possible, you find a local stockist and
try-before-you-buy. Please let me know how you get on if you go the loop
route.

Wouldn't it be easier to just use headphones? Plenty of cordless one
around at a much lower cost.

Of course they would only be mono. I seem to recall back a long time ago I
made one of these amps, Seem rather expensive for a current amplifier to me.
Small market again I guess.

We had an inductive loop fitted temporarily in a TV studio for the
presenter - Killroy, IIRC. He preferred this for his talkback to the more
usual radio system, which was already in place.

It was merely a H&H power amp with a loop of wire running round the walls.
Perhaps a resistor or whatever in series with the loop. So I'd imagine it
would be easy enough to do at home, without buying expensive gear.

The one my father has has a mono/stereo switch so a second benefit of
plugging it into the Sky box was that he got stereo instead of the mono
provided via the microphone.

How many who are so deaf they need a hearing aid and loop for listening to
the TV etc would benefit from stereo sound?
