Watching the jubilee celebrations on Sky news via satellite this evening I
noticed everything looks fat and stretched when viewing in 16:9, with the same fault even on the adverts, switching the aspect ratio from ,16:9 to 4:3 everything looks normal, how can that be? Sky haven't transmitted 4:3 for years and I could hardly imagine them making anything in 4:3 nowadays, let alone adverts, it's not my equipment that's faulty because when I switch to other channels they are absolutely fine, any ideas? I've managed to photo a couple of pictures off a TV screen, there are a few parallax errors but at least it gives an idea of the problem. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11815200/169.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11815200/4.3.jpg |

Yes I've tried that, it's a Technomate TM 5402HD STB and all the other 16:9 channels are fine, in fact what I've done is switched Sky news on the telly between Sat and Freeview both (via HDMI) and combined the two pictures, so you can get a better idea of the problem, most odd, that's why I wondered if it's a transmission problem. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11815200/fault.jpg |

BTW the Freesat and Freeview captions in the picture are the wrong way around. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11815200/fault.jpg |

Problem now solved, well sort of, about 100 channels down the list I found another Sky News which works OK, checking out Lyngsat indicates that it's Sky News Ireland, which I've now replaced the problem one with, when I'm a bit more awake I'll try retuning the transponder and see if the original UK one works and then find out whether it's a fault with that particular Sky programme or if it has somehow got corrupted in my receiver and needs to be reinstalled. Thanks to both you and Gareth for your help and advice. |

I noticed that - they had a few stretchy-fat-vision ads on. Not that they were originally older ads badly fitted, these were current ads badly fitted by somebody who'd wandered in and fiddled with some buttons. |
