Default itv1 programme numbers (series record)

Sundays, itv1HD "Vera" is set to series record on my Humax Foxsat HDR.
This week's was pulled for some reason, and "Lewis" put out in it's
slot. Lo & behold on playing "Vera" back it was this "Lewis".

That suggests that either itv are being sloppy, or they've decided that
it's the slot that gets the same number not the programme.

Haven't read the ETSI or whatever on series record, but I was always
under the impression that each programme should have a unique number to
enable PVRs to track it across date, time and even channel changes.

This has happened before with itv programmes. It doesn't seem to happen
with BBC programmes.

Anyone else find this?

Yeah and what peed me off was that I had already seen that episode of
Lewis... what gutted me more last night was that I missed a new episode of
Lewis

They probably realised that Vera is utter cack and decided to put something
decent on instead.

Don't know how to get ITV1+1 on Sky but I did think about ITV Player

Presumably you entered a Channels Islands postal code in the setup mode
of your $ky receiver and therefore are denied access to ITV-1+1 on
EPG LCN 131.

If so, you need to go to the other channel mode of your $ky receiver
and manually add it there.

If you do not know how to do that, you really should learn how to
do a web search using your favorite browser and favorite web engine.

My Humax recorded the new Lewis OK, but had been set before the Vera change.

To their credit itv responded very quickly to my email, but completely
missed the point! They said the Vera episode had been pulled because of
the content:-
"The storyline of this episode concerns the death of a soldier in
Afghanistan . Following the news at the weekend of the deaths of two
servicemen in Helmand province, it was considered appropriate to delay
the broadcast of this particular episode."

Possibly not. Your PVR might have realised that your wanted programme was no
longer in the EPG and, rather than recording nothing, decided to record
whatever was in the same slot.

Haven't read the ETSI or whatever on series record, but I was always
under the impression that each programme should have a unique number to
enable PVRs to track it across date, time and even channel changes.

Each programme ('event' in ETSI-speak) has two identifiers; one identifies
the individual programme, the other the series that it is a part of.

To ensure that the IDs are not accidentally duplicated they are prefixed
with the URL of the broadcasting company. Thus a BBC2 programme repeated on
BBC4 gets the same event ID. However the series ID would be different, so
you could choose to record the BBC2 or the BBC4 version. IDs are not kept
permanently attached to the material, so your years-old Lewis episode would
have had different IDs when it was originally broadcast.

All sorts of things are sloppy these days. I notice programs that say
subtitles or nothing may have AD but not say it has, the reverse is also
true, particularly on ch 5.
Its about time the networks got some quality control in their information
provision. OK its only tv, but there is little point in a feature if nobody
can rely on it is there?

Exactly -- it is the signs of the breakdown of civilization as
we know it because nobody cares: little things at first such as
these, more significant failures come later.

The decline of the Roman Empire was accompanied by a concomitant
decline in the plastic arts.
