This dual tuner device has been running fairly happily in my system for a
few years until now. Retuning resulted in no stations being found and a reported signal strength (in Kaffeine) of 45% to 48%. I dismantled the system and reconnected it in an upstairs room where the distance from the aerial distribution amplifier is only about 3 to 4 metres. This increased the signal strength to 56% but I could only get BBC stations. I added a small UHF pre-amp between the wall socket and the lead to the TV card. This increased the signal level by 9%. The signal to noise ratio throughout was reported as 0% which seems a bit odd. The result though was to just add another couple of BBC stations. My television in a downstairs room seemed to get everything going but unfortunately did not give priority to the highest signals, leading to two hours of shuffling channels about and still needs treatment. It seems that this exercise has well and truly left me behind! -- ________________________________________________ PCLinuxOS release 2011 (PCLinuxOS) for x86_64 Kernel 2.6.38.8-pclos3 KDE version 4.6.5 Running on an AMD 4-core processor |

Are you using autoscan or the scanfile.dvb entry for your transmitter? I just discovered that the scanfile.dvb with the latest kaffeine is hopelessly out of date because it is pre-DSO frequencies and parameters for every UKofGB&NI transmitter. So either use autoscan or download w_scan and use that to find the stations. http://wirbel.htpc-forum.DE/w_scan/index2.html And anyways, w_scan is more "sensitive" to finding signals and locking on to them than the kaffeine autoscan. |

Please upgrade. -- ________________________________________________ PCLinuxOS release 2011 (PCLinuxOS) for x86_64 Kernel 2.6.38.8-pclos3 KDE version 4.6.5 Running on an AMD 4-core processor |

Sounds like good advice but I have hit a dependancy error. So the drama continues. Sounds like good advice but I have hit a dependancy error. I would guess that the problem is you need to install a "dev" package to provide the necessary header files in order to compile the package. I do not have direct experience with PC Linux OS but presumably your are using yum or equivalent. From the error given by running configure can you work out the name of the needed library and then install the needed development package with yum? |

It will not compile because of a missing dvb-api that needs to be version 5.3 or better. Not available (yet) on the pre-release version of PClos that I am using. I cannot find the source on the www either! -- ________________________________________________ PCLinuxOS release 2011 (PCLinuxOS) for x86_64 Kernel 2.6.38.8-pclos3 KDE version 4.6.5 Running on an AMD 4-core processor |

PClos 64-bit has a 3.3 kernel available, and there is one in 32-bit testing. -- Dave |

The kernel headers matching the kernel ae installed so fo the moment I am a a loss. I also managed to lose all sound! Kind of reminds me of the 'good' old days! -- ________________________________________________ PCLinuxOS release 2011 (PCLinuxOS) for x86_64 Kernel 2.6.38.8-pclos3 KDE version 4.6.5 Running on an AMD 4-core processor |

The kernel headers matching the kernel ae installed so fo the moment I am a a loss. Unfortunately there are two sets of header files. One is provided by the kernel headers package and is installed at /usr/src/kernel-devel-x.y.z, the other comes from the glibc-headers-devel package and installs at /usr/include/linux/dvb. While there is a kernel headers package for the 3.2 kernel, the glibc package is still for 2.6.38. If you are feeling lucky you could try overwriting the glibc files with the ones from the kernel headers. I now recall why I gave up on the 64-bit PClos distribution and decided on Mageia2 when it comes out... -- Dave |
