But I suspect few actually *read* it, and absorbed the contents properly ! People do not have time to read these things when there are more important things which have to be done viz watching Emmerdale, Coronation Street, and Eastenders, and after you have had a few down at the local, it just don't make much sense. Anyways, there is an English traditional belief that these things will sort themselves out by themselves so there is no need to actually do anything. |

The second point is illustrated by this item in our local rag - Surrey
Mirror, Thursday 5th April: Quote The compulsory Digital Switchover officially began yesterday. The switch-over will take place in two stages with BBC2 going digital on April 4 while the remaining analogue channels follow on April 18. Unquote. (The punctuation is theirs, not mine). They obviously have a clear understanding of the process ![]() Another John. |

I've found the following synonyms: blockhead, dimwit, dunce, fool, idiot, imbecile, know-nothing, moron, numbskull, addlebrain, blunderer, bonehead, botcher, bumbler, butcher, butterfingers, clod, clumsy oaf, dolt, donkey, duffer, featherbrain, foul-up, fumbler, goof off, goofball, harebrain, incompetent, klutz, mismanager, muddler, muffer, screw up, spoiler - which are all rather strong. I wonder why there isn't a word meaning someone who is only slightly ignorant about a specific matter and it isn't really their fault? They should have put out a warning message to re-tune VCRs or VideoPlus won't work. -- Max Demian |

Well, as you say, cannot tell yer, as pictures in jpeg are not very helpful.
Neither are the new adobe Digital Editions which is such a buggy piece of software its ridiculous. With regard to switchover. I have had nothing but hassle since the message to do an auto retune on the 4th. So far. channels going missing completely. Duplicate channels. No radio channels, the duplicate ones again. Then channels that say they are there, but have no signal, please check aerial. Then box saying, due to inactivity I'm going into standby and locking out the remote and going into standby and no coming out till you pull the plug and put it back in again. None of this was there before the 4th April. the goodmans box seems to be getting a mind of its own and I've had to retune 5 times so far to keep all the channels working but the program guede is a fiasco, being missing on many channels. I suspect the software in the smart talk box has never been challenged very much in normal use before! I can't find the online version on the Daily Mirror website for you, but actually, the only severe bit of journalistic ********, is a picture of a Group A contract Yagi, and the title, "GONE TO POT: Old style TV aerial". I'm not convinced the disappearance of BBC2 analogue prompted all of the 30,000 calls, I suspect 90%+ were because *digital* BBC had vanished, and they didn't know their DTT kit required a rescan and/or knew how to. Although, with the move of ITV analogue to where BBC 2 was, I suspect there are plenty of thickos thinking, 'blimey, BBC 2 is suddenly showing some good stuff now' ! -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. www.paras.org.uk |
