Have found a suitable box to send this item, so have added postage to

But someone *might* want it (perhaps for spares), so why not take a punt on listing it? Personally, I'm very impressed by the detail and honesty with which it is described. I wish more stuff on eBay was described so honestly. -- SteveT |

I don't know what makes you say that, when you know that it has recently enabled me to get goodish (and certainly far better than I originally expected) recordings of about 300 vinyls (150 twice over). I've never denied that I had to put a lot of fuss and bother into getting the results I did, but someone else may think that their collection is worth a similar amount of fuss and bother. And it's never going to be any good in the unlikely event it can be repaired. In its present condition, it only needs to last as long as it takes to digitise a number of vinyls. If some die-hard vinyl enthusiast wanted to actually restore it, the way some car fanatics completely restore old cars, then in principle, it could be restored almost* completely. All the bits have been kept, even down to the lid hinges that broke within a couple of years of buying it. Of course even then it would still have the slight rumble, but you will have heard from the samples that it's not intrusive. * One would have to find replacement for the original arm wiring. I didn't bother to keep that because its fragility meant that I broke it when removing it. However, I would imagine that exactly or near enough equivalent wiring could be found from an electronics supplier. The styli would also need to be retipped. And, cosmetically, the lid has a small star fracture (thanks J) and the plinth has a hole on the front where originally I had a switch, and the socket on the back for the phono out is not original either. But someone *might* want it (perhaps for spares), so why not take a punt on listing it? Personally, I'm very impressed by the detail and honesty with which it is described. I wish more stuff on eBay was described so honestly. Thank you. That was my point entirely. To me, now that I've digitised all my vinyls, it's just outdated technology, and I wouldn't buy it. But either because they want to digitise their vinyls, or because they want to restore either their own 601 or my one, someone may want it, and rather than just bin it, it seems worth the minimum auction charge to find out. Although there are no bids as yet, it does currently have a surprising number of watchers, and although from experience I know that not all can be assumed to be potential bidders, at least some probably are. -- ================================================== ======= Please always reply to ng as the email in this post's header does not exist. Yes, that is certainly the common form of bidding pattern on the sort
of kit for which I occasionally bid. But there seems to be another common pattern which seems to run like: "I'm going to be away/otherwise engaged when the auction ends, or I'm only prepared to go to such'n'such a price whatever others may be prepared to bid, so I'll bid now and just accept whatever may happen later. If I win it, I've got a bargain, if not, then I've not wasted any money."
