Default Lots Of Jitter On BBC4: "The Singing Detective"

I confess I was probably making the almost unforgiveable faux pas
and mixing it up with the Lancashire accent, which would of course
be more appropriate for our Stockport correspondent.

Hmm, possibly never been to Stockport, have you?!

I have been to Stockport on two occasions in fact. Stockport
having prior to the infamous Heath-Walker reforms of April 1st, 1974
been in Cheshire, would not have had Lancashire accents of course,
but its residents would I guess be more familiar with them than
foreign accents from East of the Pennines.

If you do an accent-holiday, don't forget Widnes for it's
interesting blend of Lancs. and Scouse!

How does that compare to Saint Helens?

And, BTW, WTF is TOTP77 doing on BBC4 anyway? I wouldn't have wanted
to watch it even back in '77, let alone now. Old Grey Whistle Test,
yes, TOTP, only under compulsion, which I would have relieved by
taking the p*ss out of it.

i'm enjoying it - especially because you get the crap with the good,
putting to rest the myth that music was better in the past - it's just
that time is the filter that means you only remember the good.
with TOTP 2 you would never get something awful like the ' oh superman '
song that was on top of the pops a couple of months back.

Before my time, that, but I presume that's the county mix-up thing?

Oh now come on, NOTHING compare to S'ntellins!

What caught my attention about the show a few weeks back were 1. the
guy in the white jumper with a golliwog on the front of it, and 2. The
picture of a Ford Cortina half-way through a car wash to illustrate
the Rose Royce song. It was an amazing exercise in literal nonsense.

Laurie Anderson? That sounds like fightin' talk!
