There was an item on 'Feedback' today about the distorted sound when
local radio is played through iPlayer. Apparently the BBC knows what the
fault is but can't get the parts!

Really? I have not noticed any problem here, except that the local radios
are in mono mostly.
I guess in this day and age you need specific parts, in them old days one
could just fix it with a few bits from the junk box.

My understanding from what I've seen either here or on u.t.broadcast is
that the fault affects all local radio.

Certainly, when we were listening to the BBC Essex live stream
yesterday, the continuous clicking and clacking was very intrusive ...

"We have recently been experiencing technical problems with our streaming of
local radio stations. These have been described as 'Popping' or 'Clicking'
sounds. We are working to resolve these issues, and apologise for any
inconvenience that this has caused."

This seems to be affecting all BBC Local Radio streams, including things
lihe the IPhone app TuneIn Radio.

I've certainly noticed the same effect on straightforward internet radio
on a Roberts WM-201 using the Reciva portal, including BBC Essex and BBC
Cambridgeshire. Is this problem related to the issues on iPlayer?

One question though was whether BBC London is affected given that it
is effectively co-located with national stations.

I certainly get it on my Internet Radio when listeing to R/Shropshire or
Hereford& Worcester. Very annoying pops clicks and bangs.

I've just heard a trail on BBC Radio 4: "Feedback" starting at 20:00
tonight will investigate the pops and clicks (allegedly).

Won't it be a repeat of the first broadcast?
