On its own tuner it can watch sd, but not hd, you would need an hd box to
see hd on it from the way I interpret the spec. They don't make it easy
though do they?

Hi all,
I did end up getting the Toshiba 40inch LCD TV, but not with the
freeview HD Tuner, which I now wish I had stuck out for and used a HMDI
switch to get enough sockets.
Many thanks for all the suggestions.
I have again learnt the hard way :-)
Mick.

Well, you could try using a Freeview HD STB such as the Technisat HDFV
which will give some basic pvr capability plus Ethernet, now being sold
through Amazon for just £36 (down from £140). There may be issues with
this particular STB but the cost plus TV would be about the same as the
Toshiba with Freeview HD built in.

Hi John,
I do have a Humax HDR FOX-T2 connected so I can watch and record
HD through that.
We have the upgrade here next month, and from what I have read there will
not be very much HD on freeview yet?
I am not into sport, which I expect the BBC will use it for a lot.
Thanks, Mick.

That's good :-)

BBC One HD, ITV 1 HD, Channel 4 HD and BBC HD. I don't know how much
true HD material is currently broadcast on those channels in terms of
percentages, but the quantity is certainly increasing.

Incidentally, assuming that my new Celcus 40" is indeed a clone of your
new Toshiba TV, you will probably want to adjust the picture settings
for the HDMI inputs. I had reduce the brightness quite significantly.
The default settings for Freeview were more or less OK, apart from the
sharpening which I reduced to almost zero.

BBC HD is supposed to be 100% HD content.
