Presumably sans HD tuner?

Correct. It doesn't concern me though, since I use the TV with an HD
satellite box. As it turns out, however, the picture quality with SD
Freeview is much better than I thought it would be - especially with
programmes that were originated in HD - so the lack of an HD tuner
wouldn't bother me much even if I didn't have HD on satellite!

I know this has been discussed ad nauseam, but how the hell can a "Full
HD" telly NOT have an HD tuner?

When its Fool-HD-Ready. ;-)
To misquote Michael MacInty "I know I can't decode a Full-HD signal
off air, but if someone gives one to me, I'm Ready for it."

With HDMI being digital the lead will either work or not!

At risk of rising to the bait, doesn't "Full HD" simply refer to the
resolution that the screen can display? Nothing to do with what the
tuner can do, or even whether it's got one.

In my view, the HD, HD Ready and Full HD confusion must count as one of
the classic branding blunders of our time.

The problem is though that S4C Clirlun is not yet available
on satellite.

Does anybody know when it will be?

Excepting Welsh speakers, rugby enthusiasts, and presumably you ? does anybody
else care ?

In what way were they blunders? Surely they have had the desired effect
of selling more products?

I stand to be corrected, but you need a higher spec HDMI cable for 3D,
someone at work enquired if he could order one from our cable suppler,
price £1.50 sans vat. A retailer could flog it for £5 or £10 & still get a
healthy margin, but if people are willing to pay £40 when they've just
bought the telly you have to do it, harsh business sense.

You may need one that can work at higher data rates, the £89 should be
certified to to work, but nothing to say the £1 one won't do the job
anyway ... certainly that's all I use, and it's fine (but I only use
1920x1080p50)

You do not have to be able to speak Cymraeg to watch the station since
it provides English sub-titles for most programs.

To get automatic switching of the TV to the appropriate 3D mode you need
a v1.4 and of course the player output has to be v1.4 capable.

However if you use a v1.3c cable (most should be of that standard now)
then 3D should still work but you have to push the appropriate buttons
to put the TV into the appropriate 3 mode eg either frame packing,
side by side, or top and bottom.

For some people that is of course too much effort.

Anyways v1.4 cables are available on Amazon UK for about GBP 15,
but they will not make any difference if your satellite box or
Bluray player only has a v1.3 output.

For a list of facilities officially supported by each version,
take a look at the table at

http://en.wikipedia.ORG/wiki/Hdmi
