A friend has a Sony 1080p 40" TV on which he watches Waltham from near the middle of Nott'm (hilltop LoS.) He keeps getting sound dropouts on BBC HD1 and ITV1HD but not on BBCHD or Ch4HD. He has queried Sony and they have replied that it is due to the BBC switching between 1080i and 1080p and this causes sound dropout while it gets back in sync.
Neither of us believe it - does anyone here? A Sony tech told him today that it is due to the current weather conditions - which is odd since it has been doing it since Waltham DSO2! -- Woody harrogate three at ntlworld dot com |

Neither of us believe it I believe Mr Carver has mentioned that exact issue here, and that there's a fix available I thought the p/i switching was live on all DVB-T2 channels now. |

I didn't realise p/i switching was even used! Now Mark, could you fill in the rest please? -- Woody harrogate three at ntlworld dot com |

Yep, of course the p/i switching will only occur if the encoders are triggered to do so by the picture content, which will vary on a scene by scene, or even GOP by GOP basis. We've discussed this several times in here over the last 6 months. Anyway Two ways to fix. 1: Connect the TV set via ethernet to your broadband router, enable the ethernet connection in the TV's menu, and auto update, and keep the TV on, or in standby for a couple of days. It'll pick up the latest firmware, and install. 2: Start here http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/hub/LCD Navigate to the model in question, and download the latest firmware to a USB stick. Using the instructions on the website, stick the USB stick into the telly, and update. -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. www.paras.org.uk |

I had to apply new firmware to my Sony TV to fix just this very problem. Check the Sony website for details of the firmware update(s) required. HTH Clem |
