"Bill Wright" wrote in message ... When our European masters outlawed 60W and 100W light bulbs I bought hundreds of each. I now sell them at a small profit to friends and neighbours, who are massively grateful. I can see a future in selling illicit products like this. Bill I have 60 and 100 watt lamps hanging about because I bought lots years ago and haven't used one for about 5 years! I can't find anyone who wants the blessed things now that CFLs and halogens are so good, and the cheap shops around here are still selling 4 x 60w for a pound. My father in law for instance is partially blind. For him it means we can use a 25 watt CFL in a shade rated for 60 watts of incandescent lamp. A huge increase in illumination for him, without scorching the shades which is what used to happen. I got rid of a a few when my parents recently moved house and we replaced all their better CFLs with 60 and 100 watts for the new owners. Sadly, when we got to the new house I inherited a few more incandescents when we put those CFLs in their place! I agree with Dave Farrance. Where CFLs are not suitable, the "new" halogen lamps are very good, a huge improvement of the light of an incandescent. My only bugbear now is the rough service lamps I use in lead lights which consume 60 watts in return for a horrible yellowy shade of illumination. |

I was in Morrison's yesterday and about 80% of all bulbs on display were E14 or E27, mostly the latter. Homebase next door this afternnon were not much different. Probably because people had already bought most of the stock of BC bulbs, leaving the ES ones that few people actually want. -- (\__/) M. Food prices have not behaved consistently, some things have gone down [relatively speaking] whilst other things have risen. As described he http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halogen_lamp The halogen gas allows the lamp to operate at a higher temperature and thus with higher efficiency. -- Peter Duncanson (in uk.tech.digital-tv) |
