I'm on the fringes of the Sutton Coldfield reception area, and pre-DSO
Freeview has been variable to say the least, so I've not hitherto made any attempt to record digital channels - just using a VCR for the 5 analog channels. With DSO stage 2 looming, there soon won't be any analog channels to record - but I'm hoping that there will be some half-way decent digital ones once they re-allocate the frequencies and turn the wick up. In order to record programmes in future, I shall need a PVR. Although my TV is "HD Compatible", I don't currently have any means of viewing HD channels - and would presumably need an HD set-top box of some sort. Is the perceived wisdom that I should use two separate boxes, or are there any reliable devices that combine both functions? I would greatly appreciate your advice - along with make/model recommendations. TIA. -- Cheers, Roger ____________ Please reply to Newsgroup. Whilst email address is valid, it is seldom checked. |

Some software niggles apart (most digital recorders seems to have them!) you can't beat Humax's range. See the bottom two for HD PVRs. http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/prodCat...tb&page=aerial |

Very satisfied. I had their older 9200T model before this and, as above, apart from the odd niggle, was very happy with that too. Paul DS. |

Anyone know whether there's an HDR Fox T2 User Manual accessible on-line anywhere? I can't find one on the Humax site - but might be missing it. [I always like, whenever possible, to read the user manual *before* buying anything. You get a much better idea of what it does from that rather than from a glossy brochure.] -- Cheers, Roger ____________ Please reply to Newsgroup. You get a much better idea of what it does from that rather than from a glossy brochure.] You need a 9 year old to give you a lesson. Mine is already far more au fait with the controls than I am - and yes, I did read the manual first ;-). BTW nice multi-function remote with the Humax. Happily runs my TV, Surround sound amp and DVD, despite the amp and DVD not being common makes or models respectively. So good it has become the "remote of choice" for all uses. Paul DS. |

This may be the case with all Freeview PVRs, but it had NO ANALOGUE INPUTS - hence I could not also record from my Virgin Cable box. It may be all Freeview PVRs are like this as the transmitted DTT signal may be directly converted to digital recorded format. Of course an analogue to digital encoder could be added - but I don't if this is common or even available. Graham |
