Here are some SNG trucks without logos:

Any idea what the highly extended apparatus is on the small van behind
the old fashioned street light in the first image (DSCN0493)? I'll be
soo disappointed if it's floodlighting.

Complete and utter bull****.
Intelsat 905 and 907 are around that bearing, very much used by UK
broadcasting organisations.

The issue is elevation. The dish appeared to have a centre feed and to
be aimed at the horizon.

Anyone got any ideas why a van with a large satellite dish would be operating in a back street of Southend-on-Sea (SE Essex) last

The feed position and dish alignment indicate that this is terrestrial microwave, not satellite. The absence of logos might
indicate amateur radio.

Rubbish, the feed is clearly offset.

It looks like a terrestial link transmitter for BBC Radio.

Doesn't microwave require a line of site? The van was operating in a
road with terrace housing on both sides and so would be blocking any
terrestrial signal.

When I drove past the side and back doors were open and the van was
jammed packed with racks of equipment with hardly any room for the two
people operating the equipment.

It wasn't working to a terrestrial tx/rx because the dish is pointing
upwards, unless my eyes deceive me and it ISN'T offset.

I'd be amazed at a ham fitting out a decent van like that, unless it was
a large and prosperous club playing around with sat feeds.

There's a pneumatic tower on the back as well. And two cameras. Could be
a rich camper who likes his telly!

Mr Ratcliffe will be along in a moment to say that you are talking
absolute utter ******** and that you are a moron. That's his way of
saying that he believes you to be quite wrong in your assertion.

When I drove past the equipment was being operated. The dish was
pointing very approximately 210 degrees, SSW(ish). Probably a complete
red herring, this is the same bearing as the Bluebell Hill transmitter.

Of course it's SNG. Very likely an interview with a local resident for
regional TV news. If you see it again, check the local news programmes
the same evening.

The sort of people who say anything never ask intelligent questions.
It is always "what yer doin'?" or if you are packing up "when's it gonna
be on?".
