Now that fifty per cent of F1 races will be going to Sky TV in 2012, a
simple alternative will be to watch it from the reasonably easy to receive
19.2°E on RTL, whilst listening to the commentary on radio five, something I
used to do when F1 was transmitted by ITV, during the ad breaks, until for
some reason they increasingly started to coincide with the ones being
broadcast on RTL and eventually turned it into a pointless exercise.

We used to do this, but it won't be HD - perhaps Bernie Ecclestone can be
persuaded to ensure that F1 is available from some other EU satellite
broadcaster in HD and using a CI CAM? I for one am NOT paying $ky for it,
although for a premium service (including a choice of cuts to the pits,
leader etc.) I would pay FIA or someone else.

Can I be pedantic and point out that 100% of F1 races will be going to Sky
TV?

All sport should be on pay TV.

Well if it's a choice between paying Sky, attempting to watch it on a
streaming Internet connection or a German satellite SD channel, then I'll
suffer and force myself to watch it in standard definition :-)

From what I hear, the pits probably have more interesting things in them
than the track till the last six laps or so.

This season has been slightly more entertaining than some years past.

I'm just sick to death of all the moaning sports fans. The alternative
to paying extra for watching it on the telly is to go to the event and
pay at the gate. Someone has to foot the bill for all the over-paid
sports people - I don't see why it should be everyone else.
