Default Freesat box crashing - dish alignment cause?

Might poor dish alignment cause my 2 week old Humax Foxsat HDR box to
crash?

Over the last week it won't go more than a couple of minutes before the
picture is lost, and the box doesn't respond to the remote or panel
buttons. The only way to reboot is switching off/on at the mains. The
box's diagnostic menu reports 90% signal, 100% quality.

I've tried everything Humax suggests, but the retailer wants me to check
the satellite dish alignment before having it back.

Thanks, Rob

I don't know about Humax, but my satellite box can lock up if the signal
is very low, but I'm talking about 40% quality not 100%...

If the HDR gets 100% quality across most channels/transponders then I doubt
that the dish is misaligned! The digitalspy Freesat forum is a good place
for discussing HDR problems.

Take the box back and tell the retailer that the dish is properly aligned.

It's possible, if there are bugs in it's software (or firmware), and I guess
it might be allowable for it to cause weird behaviour but that would be
unimpressive to say the least. But an actual crash that requires an off and
on again would be appalling and you should tell them that if they think it's
normal for a poor signal to cause their box to crash then the software in
the box is not fit for purpose.

There appears to be a number of regulars on this group who have that
particular model Freesat receiver and I haven't seen any threads complaining
about similar lockups, in which case it seems reasonable to assume that your
receiver is maybe a one off problem and in need of replacement.
