I wonder if there are any burqa wearing female ventriloquists in Muslim
countries?

They can't even understand the concept of ventriloquist Peter Brough
and dummy Archie Andrews on a radio show., nor can anybody else
outside UK.

Some of us from within the UK think that it was pretty odd too.

The thing is, Peter Brough was had absolutely NO talent as a
ventriloquist. He just couldn't keep his lips still. When they tried to
transfer the radio show to television, the results were simply
laughable.

Q:Why did Peter Brough need a dummy?
A: Because the dummy was the brains in the partnership.

I've had a quick look on YouTube for an example, but I can't find any
obvious clips of the TV shows. [I wonder why!]

LOL

Of course, the radio shows were where Julie Andrews got a start in her
show business career.

Archy's sister? Show business is full of nepotism. :-)

As she was only around 16 at the time, I wonder if some of her early
performances were a bit wooden?

She was actually supposed to be Archie's girlfriend (same name, but
hopefully, not a close relation!).

Tony Hancock as well, IIRC.

It seems odd becausebecause we knew that Peter Brough was using the
dummy during radio performances. We don't think there is anything
particularly strange about an actor on radio performing more than one
character using a different voice for each.

Yeah but they don't pretend to be not moving their mouths :-)

The Goon Show would have been much less entertaining if Spike Milligan,
Harry Secombe, Peter Sellers and Michael Bentine had used only one
voice each.

Imagine if they had manipulated a dummy of each character :-)

I think that might be the basis for a Goons tribute TV show. :-)

AFAIR he couldn't not move his mouth.

Somebody already had that idea in the 60s. Google for telegoons.

I think it was on a BBC 4 or Channel 4 'History of Classic UK Radio and
TV Comedy' type of programme. But the video doesn't seem to have made it
to YouTube (plenty of audio, though).
