Sony TVs and 1080p

Probably firstly as a patch downloadable from Sony's website that you
can apply via a USB stick, then hopefully an OTA broadcast on the BBC
mux. Either way, I've seen nothing yet on Sony's or the DTG website.

I've only been a Bravia owner for 3 weeks so I've not yet experience it
but I *think* Sony also push updates to at least some ranges if the TV is
left connected to the 'net.

we have a KDL40EX713U, it suffers this problem also when the sound drops out
the display changes to 1080i momentary. Its has been connected to the net
since December.

Indeed, but I did Sony a slight disservice. They didn't state that they
would issue a fix, but rather they stated that they were testing a fix
and would have more information in the next 7 to 10 days.

Point noted. I wonder what they mean by:

This fix will improve the transition from 1080i to 1080p and back, to
ensure the audio, picture and data information are not interrupted.

'Improve the transition' stops short of promising a full solution.
However, they do go on to use the word 'ensure'. We'll know by
tomorrow though :-)

Sony's announcement (URL above) was updated this afternoon, 1 June 2011,
with the words:-

*UPDATE* Firmware update due soon.

I'm not convinced that purchasers of Sony televisions should be
further inconvenienced by the company's incompetence in an unrelated
matter.

Sony are too big. They should be split up - and they should never
have been allowed to be major players in both hardware and content
in the first place.

Anti-trust laws. Conglomerates of this kind reduce customer choice.
An independent manufacturer of DVD players, for example, would have an
interest in as many people as possible being able to play any movie on
their device. A manufacturer that was also a film company would
instead have an interest in controlling just who could watch what, and
when.

we aren't yet that state controlled

No doubt if "we" were a large multinational we would be against such
control.
