I followed a discussion thread on here about flashing with a Telsky
firmware. I did this and I can scan and get channels but they are from 2201 upwards. I need help with one of two things, either: 1. Is it possible to dump the channel list, manually edit and then re- upload OR 2. reimage with the latest Ross firmware. I tried the Ross upgrade with the .img from a USB stick, it says 'UPG' on the panel but then is still Telsky when I reboot. Does anyone know if there is a .bin equivalent of the Ross firmware so it can be done from the USB GUI page? Thanks Paul |

Paul, I had a problem with the Ross update. I'm not an M$oft user so I quickly discovered that the Rx wouldn't recognise ext3 or 4 ! I had to format a stick fat32 ( even ntfs didn't seem to work ) and make sure there was nothing else on the stick. Probably no help to you at all ! I'm rapidly getting sick of the sight of the 6110usb. The manual is rubbish and the menu system not intuitive ( to me). I might try the Telsky s'ware too. |

My Ross HD receiver is happily working with the Telsky firmware, and I don't understand how you can be getting those channel numbers! The current Ross HD box is different to the model I upgraded though, so perhaps that's the problem. Do you have two USB ports? I need help with one of two things, either: 1. Is it possible to dump the channel list, manually edit and then re- upload AFAIK it isn't possible to save the list and edit it on a PC - but this shouldn't be necessary - with the Ross/Telsky built-in editor you can put the channels anywhere you like. OR 2. reimage with the latest Ross firmware. I tried the Ross upgrade with the .img from a USB stick, it says 'UPG' on the panel but then is still Telsky when I reboot. I don't know why the reversion to the old Ross firmware didn't work, since I tried this myself as an experiment using an IMG file. The firmware was re-installed automatically from USB when the box booted. That was some time ago though, and I haven't tried to go backwards from the current Telsky version. Does anyone know if there is a .bin equivalent of the Ross firmware so it can be done from the USB GUI page? Yes, the latest version of the Ross firmware for the old HD box is/was available as a BIN file on request from Ross technical support. I think it's much the same as the Telsky. I don't know about the new model. |

Just a thought - the Ross panel will always display 'UPd' when the box is powered up with a USB memory stick plugged in. This means that the box is searching for a firmware file named miscBls.img, but it does not mean that it has found it! Even if the stick is completely empty, you will still get the 'UPd' message. You have to make sure that the .img file is in the root directory of a FAT32 formatted stick. In this case, you will see a message on screen with a progress bar saying that the update is taking place. -- John L |

Maybe I've done this wrong as I didn't rename the .img file. Should it be specifically called 'miscBIs.img'? Thanks Paul |

I also didn't leave it long enough. Hopefully I haven't damaged the flash memory as they say on their website. Doh Paul |

Doh I don't think you will have damaged the flash memory, but even if your current firmware has become corrupted, there's a good chance that the img file update will be OK since this is installed by the boot-loader, which AIUI is stored in protected memory. There isn't an option to use a file named anything other than miscBls.img ; if the name is wrong then the file won't be found. -- John L |

Hi John,
I put the .img filename back to the original and reflashed this evening and it WORKED!!! Also I have been in contact with Ross support who have been brilliant and Stuart mailed me a new firmware image (1.0.7) as a .bin file so I am going to try that now ;-) I appreciate your time replying. Thanks again Paul |

Do you know if an automatic scan on the Ross will pick everything up including new stuff? Thanks Paul |

Another question? No problem... If I learn of new channels on 28.8 east can I manually add them to a Ross HD box? Yes, in general it's easiest to do a scan of the specific transponder, and the Ross will add the new channel(s) to the list. This assumes that the transponder is already in the receiver's database, but if it isn't, you just enter the details using the "add transponder" option. There is also the menu option "Manual Add Service", but I've never used this except to enter details of the Freesat EPG. Do you know if an automatic scan on the Ross will pick everything up including new stuff? An automatic scan will pick up everything that's available, provided the list of transponders is complete. This also assumes that you're getting a strong enough signal from the weaker transponders, which isn't necessarily the case. -- John L |
