Hi Everyone,

I'm looking around for a new system, does anyone have any
recommendations? I am quite interested in the Humax 9300T but am wary of
Humax's poor reputation for customer support especially as their systems
quite hit-or-miss as to whether you recieve a dud machine (judging by
feedback on Amazon and Which). I'm not fussed about Freesat, would like a
decent amount of recording time (approx 120 hrs) and am looking to spend up to ~£200.

Cheers

I've always found Humax to be good. They helped me find a replacement drive
for my 9200t. The only issue I had was before the last update where it was
very slow and they took forever to fix it. However they did fix it and the
9200t hadn't been in production for a long time.

I am now waiting for my 9200t to break so I have an excuse to buy the 1tb
fox hdr freeview HD pvr.

That as maybe for the 9200 (which you can't buy anymore), but the 9150/9300

Mine routinely fails to make recordings or cuts them off before the end.

Returned home from 12 days away, to find the dreaded line of
dashes on the display. It had fallen over on the first night we
were away. Why doesn't it do that when we are at home?

Still, it has saved a bit of time trying to catch up ;-)

Our 9300 has only dropped one programme so far and that might have
been because it wasn't actually transmitted. I don't know. The BBC
seem good at changing schedules for no reason without telling anyone.

My gripes with the 9300 are minor irritations. In that it puts the
volume bar in the middle of the screen and always reminds you when it
is about to start recording with a banner, again, in the middle of the
screen. I see no need for either.

It's very tricky generating statistics from
reviews - there's a massive amount of self-selection
in the sample.

You can't get an absolute statistics from reviews but you can get a
relate idea.

Eh?
I thought they had a very good reputation for customer support?
On the odd occasions I've dealt with them they have been fine.

I think that you've been lucky.

Most experience (including mine) seem to be that their one and only
response to a problem is, "reset to defaults and if that doesn't work,
reformat the disk"

tim

My experience is that Humax customer support does not exist, and I will
never, ever buy a product from them again.

Does any company have satisfactory customer support any more?

Dell are generally very good, though sometimes they can't solve a problem -
such as providing a device driver for my 5-year-old Dell printer for Windows
7 - though that must be company policy rather than customer service.

That would annoy me immensely. I consider the bars and messages from
my Panasonic annoying and they are at the bottom or right hand side of
the screen. There is no way I would buy a recorder that puts bars and
messages in the middle of the screen.

The problem with the Humax, is not that it displays the bars, but that it
takes away the audio/video whilst it does it.

They may argue that this few second delay doesn't matter, but I will counter
that it occurred during Antiques Roadshow exactly at the point of "reveal"
so that I completely missed it. And all to tell me something completely
unnecessarily.

(FWIW, I don't actually watch AR it just happened to be the final 2 minutes
before I wanted the next program, so I didn't really care. But if I had...)

Mine doesn't do the latter. Although the bars usually block something
important on the screen.

This must be an entirely different company called Dell than the one I
have experience with. The one I know sells computers and first sold
my mother a computer entirely unsuitable for her and then tried to
charge her for /two/ computers. It took her months to sort them out
with legal action etc. Others who have used this company have had
poor experiences too. Maybe they have improved recently but I
wouldn't bet on it.
