... Sorry if this is a frequently asked question, but which is best for channel content, Freeview or Freesat? One person told me that the few Freeview channels that can't be received on Freesat (because their sat broadcast is encrypted) more than make up quality-wise for the multiplicity of Freesat channels. Is that right? What about HD? Does Freeview HD and Freesat HD get the same HD channels? I think that if you have the choice this is a "non-question". Why wouldn't you have Freeview unless you need an Arial upgrade. All new TVs come with Freeview built in. A Freeview box can be had for a nominal amount. I think it only gets interesting when you go HD where the higher available bandwidth of satellite communications allows more HD channels and more interactive features to be available. So if you want the full F1 experience with all the driver cams you need freesat or sky. Also as others have pointed out Freesat is a locked down platform. So there is stuff available that is free but can't be viewed on a Freesat box because its EPG should be locked. (some receievers are dual mode).... |

It partly depends on where you live, most relay stations will only have the 3 PSB multiplexes, Freesat is definitely better then. Both systems will have BBC HD, BBC1 HD, ITV1 HD & C4 HD. NHK World HD will be on Freesat next month. -- Adrian |

Personally, I found it to be the worst rolling news channel - by a very long way Euronews is more of a Bob Danvers-Walker Pathe newsreel style news station than a rolling BREAKING NEWS in your face personality led news station. Perhaps that is why your opinion of it is so low? So try France 24 or Deutsche Welle TV. And Bloomberg is better for business news than CNBC. |

If you are doing a manually initiated scan of that transponder frequency you might need to tell your box to use DVB-S2. -- Peter Duncanson (in uk.tech.digital-tv) |

One very good station on sat that is not on Freeview is Euronews. It is amazing how much is going off elsewhere in Europe that is never even mentioned in the UK media. That's because no one cares what happens in the rest of europe. |
