Freesat or Freeview

Sorry if this is a frequently asked question, but which is best for channel
content, Freeview or Freesat?

One person told me that the few Freeview channels that can't be received on
Freesat (because their sat broadcast is encrypted) more than make up
quality-wise for the multiplicity of Freesat channels. Is that right?

What about HD? Does Freeview HD and Freesat HD get the same HD channels?

The best for multiplicity of stations is an FTA receiver with motorised
satellite dish.

Connect that up to a TV with Freeview and you get the best of all worlds,
eg Quest on Freeview, and CBS Action on satellite.

One channel that SWMBO likes on Freeview, that isn't availible FTA on D-sat (including
Freesat) is Dave.

I think that's quite common.

But Dave will soon have shown all the programs it has at least 50 times,
so its appeal will fade.

chances are, if you get freesat your tv will already have freeview built in?
there's stuff like dave, couple of music channels, the 2 five spinoffs
on freeview not on freesat.
freesat does have lots of others.
both have the same hd - bbc hd, one hd, itv hd and four hd.

To be honest from what I've found, the question should be turned on its
head. Do you get the same dross on both. In most cases more dross on freesat
as there are more channels.

One very good station on sat that is not on Freeview is Euronews.
It is amazing how much is going off elsewhere in Europe that is
never even mentioned in the UK media.

IMHO, you get more dross on FTA satellite, all the different
BBC/ITV/C4/S4C regional variants, along with a handful of worthwhile
channels _not_ on terrestrial.

On terrestrial you get a couple of channels that are _not_ on FTA
satellite, if you want(!) you can get TopUp and SkySports1/2 cheaper
than via satellite subscription.

No harm in having both, maybe a twin tuner PVR on one and an IDTV on the
other?
