Hi As expected it is 126. Regards David It's a complete pain in the arse that we have to remember all of this stuff. Why can't BBC1 HD be on 101, ITV1 HD on 103 etc. Complete bloody shambles. Surely it's not beyond the technology to switch in and out of the HD feed as appropriate. |

It's because of regional programming in the case of BBC 1, and regional ads in the case of ITV and C4. I agree, the viewer should be able to pick whatever EPG positions they choose, but neither Freesat nor Sky allow that with their 'branded' boxes. |

I think the sort of thing Silk is envisaging is the STB automatically putting the HD channel in place of the normal SD channel (if it is an HD box, of course). The box should then be able, in response to transmitted cues, to automatically switch to and from the SD stream for regional material. While this might seem technically feasible the results could be clunky because of the non-synchronisation of the SD and HD streams and differences in coding delays in the box. Also because of the corresponding SD and HD streams potentially being on different transponders the box could need more than 2 tuners. -- Peter Duncanson (in uk.tech.digital-tv) |

I spoke to ITV's then director of technology at an industry bash a couple of years ago, and ITV did indeed consider the idea, but tests revealed there was too much 'thrashing around' at the transition points, so it was rejected. |

It's a complete pain in the arse that we have to remember all of this stuff. Remind me, what is the purpose of the Freeview EPG or mini channels list available on all good digital receivers, or even the ability to set up a favorites list with a few clicks of the button? |

There should be no need to faf about. If you select, say, 101 for BBC1, you should expect that the best feed will be automatically selected. If a Freesat box can't do this simple task, then there is no advantage over a non-Freesat HD box. |
