Default Signal strength testing

I have just finished building my workshop and would like to install a TV
piont but the workshop is only small and there are other houses between
the workshop and the direction of the transmitter (Waltham)

It's too long a run and too difficult to get an extension from the house.

How can I tell if I will receive a decent signal around the position
(around 15ft - 20ft) above the ground where I can install an ariel? and
what ariel would folks recommend?

Evict the peasants and demolish their hovels ...

It's too long a run and too difficult to get an extension from the house.

Obviously the castle grounds are extensive ...

How can I tell if I will receive a decent signal around the position
(around 15ft - 20ft) above the ground where I can install an ariel?

Easy! Put one up and see what you get!

and what ariel would folks recommend?

I'd use an aerial - detergent doesn't work very well - even if you're a Count!

Presumably, being a Count, your castle is on the top of a hill, which should
make things easy, provided your workshop is on the right side of the hill!

If you've read this far, you might have got the message by now that that the
only answers you can expect will be based on guesswork as we all exhausted our
powers of telepathy yonks ago. They will be of no use to you and a waste of
time to everybody else ...

Why not start again with some useful information - a reasonably precise
location, for example. A full PostCode doesn't identify you - and we're clean
out of battering rams at present - but you can leave off the last letter if you
don't mind the answers being less than accurate ...

What is the terrain like? Level? Rising/falling in the direction of Waltham?
You've mentioned houses - how far away? Any trees, etc.,?

Try this site:

http://www.macfh.co.uk/JavaJive/Audi...strialCalculat
or.php

or

http://tinyurl.com/32txwbo

and select the Google Map option. In satellite view at maximum zoom you can
drag the marker to the precise position of your shed and see exactly wghat is
in the way ...

If you have a clear view to the south east, why not just install
a satellite dish (600 mm) which can be at ground level, and then
you will not have to worry about antennas on poles getting blown
about in the gales which plague the East Midlands.

You can tell by installing an aerial on a temporary basis.

Or, as I said in my earlier post:

"Easy! Put one up and see what you get!"

Yes, I have all incoming posts listed chronologically, and start at the
oldest, so I do tend to reply to things and then discover that someone
else had provided a better response, earlier. I suppose I ought to
re-organise myself and my 'puter.

Ohhh... secret! Don't tell her, but Hil's getting a new 'puter. The one
she has now is prehistoric. No sound, won't work properly with a modern
monitor, won't drive a second monitor, has a tiny hard drive, and so on.

We only got married because we lost track of who owed what to who.
Since then we've never had the concept of his and her money.
