Default Replacement for Humax 9200

Some friends of mine have lost their patience with their Humax 9200
because they claim it keeps cutting off the end of the recordings.

I don't want to discuss that particular problem now, because we did all
that in a previous thread and you guys were very helpful.

Rather, they've decided they are going to get rid of it and would like
some advice on a suitable replacement.

Because of your technical backgrounds, I trust what you guys say when
it comes to reporting your own experiences with PVRs.

I've been very satisfied indeed with my Humax HDR-FOX T2. So far it's
been totally reliable and very easy to use. However, they may be a bit
sceptical about Humax (and about anything I recommend!).

What other PVRs do you guys have experience of, and would be happy to
recommend?

I don't think there are any particularly "must have" features, except
it must handle Freeview HD as well as SD. They've got a full HD Panny
TV.

Thanks in advance, guys.

Steve if I were you I wouldn't get involved, for no other reason than the
I've been there, done that on a number of occasions, if you recommend
something and it turns out to be even more problematic than the Humax, then
guess who's going to get the blame?
Simply tell them why you don't want to get involved and and advise them to
shop around and makeup their own minds.

I'll be picking between the HDR or the new Sony freeview HD PVRs (they do a
500gb or 1TB)

FWIW I'd tend to agree. I and my family found the 9200 excellent and
very easy to use.

Have a look at the Which? reviews and blame them if it goes wrong.

I'm liking the 1TB Sony, got one a couple of weeks ago. I had some
long service voucher for £250 from work so it seemed not to cost me
too much, but the Freeview HD picture quality is very, very good,
from Emley Moor.
