The mast is 20 miles away, line of sight, good solid one required as
lots of crows and fat pigeons perch on existing aerial.

Log Periodic! If you really need wideband that is.........

You can get "commercial" ones which are supposedly more rigid / robust, but
I tried one from Vision and didn't rate it much at all

Sounds like you need one with a kilowatt of RF attached to it. The added
bonus of pigeon pie every day.
