As the owner of a Radeon - how?

First you need a VGA-SCART cable, something along the lines of this

http://www.idiots.org.uk/vga_rgb_scart/

I made a few changes to the connections to force AV selection by the TV
and to force widescreen by picking-up 5V (?) from the monitor detect
pins on the VGA side.

Then it depends if you have Windows or Linux (presumably linux if you
want to run MythTV, though I gather there is a Windows port)

within X.org you create a custom modeline, something like

Modeline "720x576_50i" 13.5 720 736 800 864 576 581 586 625 +hsync
+vsync interlace composite

though I used to tweak the timings a bit to give reduced overscan

Modeline "[email protected]" 13.88 720 741 814 888 576 580 587 625
+hsync +vsync interlace composite

For Windows you can do similar tweaks with the Powerstrip utility.

Ah, that'll be the beast. I'll give it a try. $30 to register and
all I want is a registry setting...

Thanks

So did/does mine, but it was flickery and anaemic in comparison to
having RGB out ;-)

It operates in free trial mode for 30(?) days ...

Back in mid-2005 some folks at BBC were working on that - and built a box "Pandora" and showed it a few times.
They recorded 7 days from 3 Freeview mux.

There is an old web site about it

Thanks for finding that. I remember that item as well, but was having a
problem asking google about it.

I'd posted about the Pandora project with a link twice in this thread
already :-).

Ah - the perils of a thread being in multiple newsgroups.
I saw it in alt.radio.digital and replied with cross-post back to all newsgroups but did not check the lives of the
thread in the other places.

Well it seems that this problem, which stopped the 'Listen Again'
feature from working on the BBC iPlayer applet on the Squeezeboxes,
has been solved for them at least. I'm now able to listen to any of
the weekly content from the BBC after installing a software update.

Good news for anyone who uses these devices.

ah well that explains why so many get_iplayer users (including me) were
suddenly starting at ERROR: RTMP_ReadPacket followed by 'Failed to download
blah blah..' But there is a solution. By using flvstreamer in the command
line one can overcome this glitch and continue downloading as usual. Here's
how to use flvstreamer:http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail...January/000494....

Thanks tg - found that earlier - though get_iplayer is still working
here anyway by dropping back to the mp3 stream. ipdl.exe (the other
option I went back to) died in December apparently.

I've never managed to force get_iPlayer to grab the AAC stream,
despite following instructions at the time. I'll try with flvstreamer
when I get chance.

Strange, my version of get_iplayer already had flvstreamer. It seems
to bork quite a lot now (probably due to this change) and then resume.

Personally I've never managed to force get_iplayer /not/ to get the
AAC stream. I'd rather have mp3s as they are easier to work with and
I am not worried about absolute quality.

Strange, I always had, until this last change. In my options file I have
the single line (this will wrap):

radiomode
iphone,flashaachigh,flashaacstd,flashaudio,flashh igh,flashstd,flashnormal,realaudio,flashaaclow

...so it tried iphone first to get mp3s. These were fully tagged too,
which was great.

But now I just get "ERROR: Failed to get iphone URL from iplayer site" and
it then drops through to getting a flashaacstd using RTMPDump, which is
then saved out (without re-encoding, I hope?) to an .aac file using
FFmpeg.

I've tried playing around with the options file but I can't get it to
make any difference. It is supposed to try the first option if it can
and only move on to the next if it can't?

I do get timeout error messages from flvstreamer but it does seem
resume OK. I haven't checked all the files yet to see if the audio
is OK though.
