Default Vienna New Year's Day Concert - not in HD on the BBC?!?!?

On Tuesday, January 4th, 2011 at 13:27:50h +0000, Mark Carver explained:

Well, the programme was definitely produced in HD

Unless they were lying.

So broadcast on ZDF HD in HD as well.

Unless they were lying.

"and that it was NOT available as an HD feed!"

Unless they were lying or more probably deliberately "misinformed" (for plausible
deniablity reasons) by one of her meeja studies graduate minions -- but then the
BBC has been caught lying tolisteners and viewers before today on numerous occasions
has it not?

It would seem that Danielle Nagler consistently abides by the policy of
treat the viewers as if they are no better than mushrooms.

Any one know why the New Year's Day concert wasn't in HD in the UK?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...ert_2011_Live/

Apparently it was available in HD in other European countries.

There was a discussion on DS, but I wondered if anyone here might have
definitive information?

Cheers,
David.

I suspect that for many music-lovers the sound quality on Radio 3 would
be preferable to what they would get on their TVs regardless of SD or
HD.

Well the HD (TV) sound from the S/PDIF port of my Humax Freesat PVR just
produces a nasty noise when connected to my HiFi, no doubt because it is in
5.1 format which the HiFi does no accept. The Humax does not allow the
normal stereo sound track to be selected.

snip anti BBC rant

What ever... The fact remains that no one *needed* it to be
broadcast in HD vision, the music would have sounded just as good
had the *picture* been 405 line B&W! There was visual content far
more suitable, and deserving, if the BBC was (is) going to waste
bandwidth on HD.

Exactly.

You do not care whether the broadcast was available in HD or not
or whether the BBC lied.

I assume the ****wit troll thinks that all music broadcasts on the
new-fangled television are a waste of time and resources.

BBCHD was on its Preview Loop when this was broadcast - thus there was
HD bandwidth going spare!

The strange thing is Ms Nagler appeared to be listening when people told
her that this concert was in HD elsewhere, investigated and then STILL
came back with a "we cannnot do it as its not available"!

Probably for the same reason you are....

How about answering my factually correct statement that a MUSIC
concert doesn't need HD vision, or is that to difficult for your
brain cell to grasp?

Could it be that they had already booked an SD feed for whatever
reason, then when people started asking why people in other countries
were going to be able to watch in HD, that they investigated and then
decided that they could not change from SD to HD without great expense,
or even possibly that no distribution system to the UKofGB&NI could be
made available in the remaining time, so just declared "it is not available"?

As the 2011 concert has come and gone, the question becomes, will the 2012
concert be availble on BBC in HD?

Oh right, so the idea of a music concert is to watch people,
sorry for thinking that the music is the most important part of
the proceedings, and you have the audacity to call me a
****wit...
