Default Bought a SKY + HD Box on eBay

It arrived yesterday as luck would have it, only problem was that the eBay
description said it had 185 hours recording time not much else yet it turns
out to be only a 160gb box, I bought it on the basis it was a 250gb box and
paid £ 63.98 for it on a Buy it Now. If I would have known would have looked
at the auctions instead, oh well nevermind at least it works and arrived in
time for my IRS installation. It came with the white SKY card, is this going
to be worth anything to me, I take it is a cancelled subscription card so
should still work as a Freesat card right?

Also I think the card has deactivated as I get the "this is the wrong card
for this box" message when I try it in my mums sky box. Its no great loss as
I will be using my existing Sky viewing card in the box anyway.

Did you "Ask a Question" of the seller as to what the 185 hours meant?
If no I doubt Ebay will take any action, a lesson to be learnt is if in any
doubt ask.

David

I would think most people would run a box untill subscription ran out before
selling.
Bur surely the answer your mums box gave is correct and any card would say
that dead or alive.

The 185 hours of SD is what SKY quote now for all new boxes (250gb ones) the
older 160gb will not be able to record up to 185 hours. Its as simple as
that.

I guess it could say that simply because it is not paired with that
particular box but my viewing card which is + activated and has a valid
subscription to 2 packs and Sky Sports 1 works in the 160gb box I bought
off eBay for all channels except premium (Sky Sports 1) it does not say
"this is the wrong card for this box" when try to view the FTV or even
subscription channels.

The 160gb box is not paired with my + activated viewing card the card is
paired with my mums box which the white card I got with the 160gb box says
"wrong card for this box"

Am I missing something here? I thought that to enable the record
function to work on a Sky+ box then you have to subscribe to various
Sky packages and/or pay a tenner a month.

I didn't think you could use the Sky+ finction when receiving Freesat

I am not receiving freesat, I have a valid sky subscription card and pay £
26 per month for Variety/Knowledge and Sky Sports 1.

None, you need a decent aerial and set top box or tv with the facility
built in to receive Freeview.
