... What a dreadful job, looks like at least a 60cm dish which will have quite tight beamwidth, with all that above it flapping around in a strong wind pushing the pole back and forth the signal from that dish is going to be all over place. I did not know how they were going to approach this upgrade work, but it looks like they will be installing at least one or two masts on each estate which I guess the States of Jersey have conceded is inevitable as one of the reasons why the SMATV cable tv network was constructed was because there was already a network of cables running underground in some parts of St Helier which could be added too (dating from the Rediffusion days) and it meant that erection of satellite dishes and aerials was kept to a minumum. |

Just to prove this theory I walked past Hue Court which is a high rise and on the very top of that building you can see the Aerial of one of these new IRS masts, its unmistakably the same type of mast used on my estate and the one across the road. |

Have all of these antennas and dishes arrived in container on a ship from England? Or it is cheaper to source them from the mainland ie the nearest Leroy Merlin in Normandie? |

Great Britain is regarded as the mainland here and I would have thought that the local satellite company with the expertise to carry out this work would have sourced them from a regular contact in Great Britain. |

You're possibly more likely to find better technical expertise, skill, and common sense in France. -- Mark Please replace invalid and invalid with gmx and net to reply. www.paras.org.uk |

Is that because un certificat de compétences professionnelles (CCP) is regarded as necessary to go into business, and that such a certificate is only obtained through adequate training for 6 months, such as http://www.cidj.COM/metier.aspx?docid=886&catid=1 whereas in the UKofGB&NI anyone with a van and some long ladders can claim to be an antenna installer, and membership of the Confederation of Aerial Industries means nothing? |

om... It's a pity that a local satellite company with the expertise to carry out the work isn't the one doing it. I don`t know that for sure as I`m no expert on the subject, the mast erections looked OK to me and I would of thought they had the Aerial, FM Aerial and Satellite dish on the one pole because its an IRS system that is being built. |
