I have a 32" Panasonic, 1280/768, 720P HDTV that's about four years
old. I get all my TV over-the-air. If the camera is panning a scene, the last inch (or so) on each side seems to stretch the image. It's as if the pixels on the edge are mapped 2-for-1 for the last inch or two. This does occur during a still image (or when someone enters a scene from the side), but it's not as noticeable. This also happens when I watch a DVD on this TV. I have two newer, larger, 1080 TV's and this does not happen with them. |

More than likely you have it in one of the stretch modes. It may be called panorama mode or something like that. Find a non HD show and adjust the settings so there's bars on each side of the picture. Then tune to an HD program and check that it's displaying properly. These settings are usually under screen settings, aspect ratios. -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org |

Oops, - Mea Culpa
After reviewing the responses, I went back and did some research. I discovered that when looking at OTA HDTV, there is no problem. The problem ONLY occurs with my Oppo DVD player. It is the DVD player that's stretching the last inch on each side, not the TV itself. This was one of the earliest up-converting DVD players so it's probably an internal software glitch. |

I have never heard of an Oppo player stretching the picture, either by design or by accident, and the Oppo crowd would surely scream loudly if it did. OTOH, I have seen Panasonic TVs in stretch mode like you described. |

You don't give the model number, but some Oppos stretched the outer portion of the picture, and kept the middle near OAR. Check the Aspect Ratio portion of your manual. On the BDP-80, it should be set to "16:9 Wide/Auto." |
