When I go to another country, I ABSOLUTELY expect to conform to their cultural norms. It would be arrogant, discourteous and disrespectful to do otherwise. So yes: I expect that same attitude from people coming here. Likewise. When we visit foreign countries, we are often thrown into jail for breaches of local laws (often unsuspectingly for stuff you'd get away with here e.g. just some of the news stories I can remember - plane spotting, excess drinking, sex on the beach, going topless in nightclubs). Those foreign countries wouldn't consider making exceptions for us. Why should it be different when they come here? Why should we bend over backwards to accommodate all and sundry and their "weird" ways in our damned country? We shouldn't. There really is nothing to argue about. This country has been a soft touch for far too long. You'll be trying to kid us next that we wouldn't be allowed to fund and build dozens of Christian churches in Saudi Arabia, in the same way in which the Saudis fund huge mosques here in the UK. |

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Ivan" saying something like: We shouldn't. There really is nothing to argue about. This country has been a soft touch for far too long. I take it you're being ironic. http://islam.about.com/od/saudiarabia/i/ksachurch.htm Fwiw, the local x-tian clergyman was banged up in Egypt for preaching a bit when he was younger. Daft sod went back after he was deported and was lucky to get back out again. |

In article , Grimly
Curmudgeon Fwiw, the local x-tian clergyman was banged up in Egypt for preaching a bit when he was younger. Daft sod went back after he was deported and was lucky to get back out again. Where I live we currently have the curious situation where a 'religious group' are holding an all-week knees-up... erm meeting at a local school. *5,000* of them, complete with PA systems, rock bands, etc. Their motto seems to be more "deafen your neighbour" than "love your neighbour". They maker a racket until around 10pm. Must be a nightmare for those whose houses back onto the site. We can hear it here, a few streets away, when indoors with the windows closed! I met one of the badge-carrying people involved when I was shopping today. Couldn't resist asking him if he knew that many of the people in the houses around the school were upset by the noise. His reaction was that it was 'christian' as if that made it less of a nuisance for neighbours. Or as if somehow having 'christian' in the name of the meeting absolved them from having any concern for their neighbours. Weird. I'd have thought 'christians' would be more considerate, and even concerned that their behaviour may be giving 'christian' a bad image. Must admit I've been wondering just what kind of body/group they are. I recall the old line about "Any country that has 'democratic' in its name, isn't!" Maybe there is a parallel here... :-) Purely as a matter of personal taste my wife (I think accurately) described their 'music' sic as 'hymnotic'. Seems to vary between that and "bad rock group with a bored singer via awful but loud PA". Oh well, I guess musical taste isn't a requirement to get into heaven. ;- Nor, it seems, is concern for others... at least for *some* who claim to be religious. Come the day, if they are right, I'll be raising their behaviour with the 'big man'. 8-] Slainte, Jim -- Please use the address on the audiomisc page if you wish to email me. Seems more like a money making enterprise than anything else. GBP 22.00 for a day pass? Is that what rock concerts charge? If they are raking in the cash, no wonder they do not care about the noise. |

According to a former colleage who did his national service with the signals regiment of the Norwegian army, you should use the pliers to push a pin though both conductors, then cut off the ends of the pin so they can't find it. |

Seriously So you are not joking. someone should walk onto he site with some insulated pliers and cut as many speaker cables as possible. Thereby committing criminal damage. From http://www.cps.gov.UK/legal/h_to_k/inchoate_offences/ QUOTE Assisting or *Encouraging Crime* Part 2 of the Serious Crime Act 2007 creates, at sections 44 to 46, three new inchoate offences of *intentionally encouraging* or assisting an offence; encouraging or assisting an offence believing it will be committed; and encouraging or assisting offences believing one or more will be committed. These offences replace the common law offence of incitement for all offences committed after 1 October 2008. They allow people who assist another to commit an offence to be prosecuted *regardless* of whether the underlying substantive offence is actually committed *or attempted*. UNQUOTE |
