[Not sure if this is the absolutely correct group for this, but it's as
close as I can find. Pointers to more-correct groups appreciated if necessary.] I just joined the HDTV crowd with a Panasonic TH-50PHD7UY. I've been largely successful adapting my video stack to it, but am stumped by a problem that I'm sure the right AV receiver could solve. I have: - A Sony DVD jukebox with component and s-video outputs, and digital audio output; - An older Dish Network box with s-video only; - An older VCR using an S-video adapter (good enough for kid tapes); - An Xbox with the all-in-one adapter (S-vid and component); - A Kenwood AV receiver with S-vid switching but no composite/S-vid conversion. - A JVC JX-S111 passive 5x2 switch with a mix of component and s-vid ports. It was simple enough to set up the system so that each item can feed the TV independently, with sound going through the receiver. A mechanical switch of the JX-S111 is required to choose the VCR or Xbox, but that's trivial. What I want to be able to do is route a second AV signal to the TV for PiP use. Ideally, ANY other signal; practically, it will always be the satellite receiver. I can't seem to find any clean way to switch the Sat from passing through the receiver (and using receiver audio) to connecting directly to the TV's S-vid and audio inputs (and using the TV's accessory speakers). I'm willing/planning to upgrade the satellite receiver to an HD/component output model, and the VCR to an S-video model, which should simplify things. What I want is a receiver that will handle all these component/S- vid/digital audio/standard audio signals, convert them all as necessary, AND permit me to establish two AV paths - usually DVD to the TV component inputs and Sat to the TV S-vid and audio inputs, so that I can put the Sat in a PiP window and keep an eye on news, baseball, etc. while the movie is up. I'd really rather not have a separate switch except perhaps for the VCR/Xbox. I've either hopelessly confused you or you can snap your fingers and point me at a receiver with suitable switching capabilities. I'm happy overall with the receiver I have, except that it doesn't have adequate switching capability. Budget on the receiver is not tight, but I don't want to spend an unnecessary fortune, either. Plain old 5.1 with all decoders and 80-100 watts per channel is fine.
