I'm surprised, however it looks like Rupert and Richard have now overcome
their past disagreements and if the deal goes through, will the Virgin
Freeview channels remain free?
Also, under the current rules, will Sky be allowed to make a bid for the 'up
for sale' Channel Five?

Ofcom won't allow that.

If Jeremy Hunt (Con, South West Surrey) has his way,
OfCon will not be in existence for much longer.

Nor the BBC Trust.

Dunno what to think.

If murdoch does actually get in there with Channel five assets, that
action coupled with grabbing the Branson's Virgin bits may preclude him
getting at any broadcasting bits of the Beeb he fancies IF the
competition commision still has some teeth remaining on show.

However, Virgin do have a deal with the BBC for buying and re-showing
some their programs, and he'd be wanting some of that.

I may be completely wrong (and frequently am) but I do not think that
Uncle Rupert is interested in acquiring any of the bits of the BBC
which have not yet been privatized.

What he is interested in, is severely emasculating the influence
of the BBC in winning audience share, since most television homes
still watch more hours of BBC-1 than $ky-1, even in homes which are
subscribers to B$kyB.

The most effective way to remove the tendency of people to watch
BBC television is to turn it into a pay per view subscription service.

This also would make B$kyB subscribers incredibly happy --
the why do we have to pay for the BBC when we already
pay for B$kyB argument -- and means that they would have more
disposible income to pay for further B$kyB premium services.

Yes, it was one of the bargains he got on his recent

I get the feeling recently that Virgin media simply want to not have
anything at all to run. After all, on their cable system they already
outsource newsgroups to High Winds, much support to India, Email to Google,
forums to some other provider, in the end can we expect sky engineers to be
doing installs, Some other broadband operator to be doing the broadband
etc?

This is all going to move to Satellite Five under control of the Badwolf
Corporation. I just know it!

Watch out for the Anne Droid ...

No we do not.

We are fully aware that Tory Bliar effectively had Murdoch installed
as a shadow member of the cabinet.
