With the arrival of DVB-t2 in areas which are yet to undergo analog conversion,
will the Digital Conversion Help Scheme offer DVB-t2 capable digital converter boxes to those needing assistance to receive the digital services when the analog gets switched off? Or will the disadvantaged be denied full access to DVB services? |

As long as they get the standard terrestrial channels then that's all that they should be entitled to. Anything else is a bonus and they certainly shouldn't be given HD capable receivers. -- Alex |

So under the help scheme, although they are having to shell out GBP 40 for a set top box which is only worth GBP 20, you think they should consider themselves privileged to get more than BBC-1, BBC-2, ITV-1, S4C/C4, and five? |

Are we talking cross purposes here - my parents were given a STB for free. The Help scheme only give fee boxes to those receiving some sort of benefits. The others have to pay £40 to cover the cost of installation (not just the STB). Also generally the DSO is only definitely covering the five main channels in all areas, so yes not everyone will get the benefits of digital television, and some will need Freesat. Again the DSO is not about providing the public with better TV services, but more channels and HD are supposed to smooth the way to acceptance. It is about using our finite resources more efficiently, therefore leading to more GDP and better quality of life on average. -- Tony |

To be honest I am not sure, it seems to be some sort of fall back for fringe areas, They have even given it a name "Five" or something like that, they basically are doing more to ensure all people can get these. It may also be a way of scraping the bottom of the barrel to get their target percentages of coverage on DTT. -- Tony |
