Yes, I have been an active poster in the Humax threads ![]() I was ready to give them the brush off but it appears they are going to come good. The price is a bit higher than I like but I know I will end up buying it (so long as the initial reviews are positive). |

I'm trialling 1.00.22, which has the fix for slow responsiveness and locking up, along with the cached programme guide. So far it is working perfectly (although they don't seem to have fixed my pet bug - the intermittent jump forward and jump back responses when chase-playing). Interestingly, the guide still takes quite a while to populate, even though cached. Somewhere between 45s and a minute, as far as I can tell. Obviously they are reading it in from the disk *very* slowly, which suggests the processor loading is still pretty critical. SteveT |

How many other manufacturers provide the level of software support that Humax do on kit that's no longer on sale? Well, the 9200 is only two years out of sale (my friends bought one direct from Humax a couple of years ago). So for it to stop working permanently would be pretty outrageous from their point of view. If Humax left it unfixed I suspect they'd be verging on the edge of various consumer protection laws. Certainly they would have tarnished their name very badly. But that aside, I've found Humax to be MUCH better than other suppliers in this respect. After all, they retrospectively upgraded all our 9200s to Freeview+, which was pretty good. SteveT |

I updated yesterday evening and Saturday night for ITV was still not populated fully after 4 hours. Was Ok when I checked again in the morning and seems OK now. Though I never shut mine down and rarely remember to put it into standby. |

The "channel number" changes about a year ago hit my neighbours and the results were variable: Ferguson - retransmitted their fix for this within days so one happy neighbour. Sagem - sadly my other neighbour had somehow forgotten to upgrade and the entire box stopped working completely. Despite there being a serial port built into this box (but "hidden"), there was no way to upgrade it and Sagem weren't transmitting the upgrade anyway. Small grey doorstep anyone? That serial port on the back of the Humax is a very vitalpiece of kit in my mind. Paul DS. |
