state specifically that it is a Standard Definition Freeview box only.
The mention of "HD upscaling" could lead the innocent into thinking it
is an HD box. Techies know what upscaling means, but it would be very
easy for someone to guess that it means the the box itself has been
"upscaled", i.e. upgraded, to receive HD.

I already got caught when I bout my Samsung TV.
Nobody explained that I would need yet another set top box to make use of

Samsung also lie to customers by suggesting they sell "LED TV". This is
total rubbish and the Advertising Standards Authority continued to allow
them to lie and mislead people by stating "LED LCD TV". People will see the
LED bit and think the screen is LED. It isn't. What they mean is LCD
screen with LED backlighting.
LED screens have been around for years now, but manufacturers have made that
many LCD TVs that it will take years to shift them all. They are hold back
on the release to guarantee future earnings. This constant "you need to
update" battle they have with consumers!
LED screens don't use backlighting, they provide the actual picture and the
brightness control works on each tiny LED in the display. The same for
contrast. They are super-thin, only a few mm, some can even be rolled up
like a picture and unrolled when in use. They have been on display at
various trade shows for at least 5 years now. Don't rush out and buy that
new LCD TV just yet as HD is on the way for Freeview, then LED will
gradually replace LCD, then LCD HD freeview will be released. It's fixed
between the manufacturers and shops. They allow the odd new model out to
give a preview, but it will have a huge price tag on it, like LCDs did years
ago.
Currys, Tesco, Dixons, Pixmania, John Lewis, Laskys and others all mislead
people with incorrect descriptions. So buyer beware, get the model number
and do some research to see if it does what you expect before buying.
Currys even tried to sell me a laptop with LED screen, then admitted it was
no such thing. It was LCD with LED backlighting - I know to expect them to
lie to customers now, they do it quite often.
If you can't wait to buy something, get a cheap model, then you will not
lose so much when the item you really want comes along.

But he Humax website makes it perfectly clear, even for those that
aren't too hot on technicalities, that it has a 320GB HDD

don't worry these guys don't bother to read other posts they just jump in
feet first........they are the clever dickies.

Also, may replies say don't buy now because there will be a better model
very soon.............well if you use that rule then you will never buy one.

Just get what you can afford now, they are cheap as chips.

Also watch out for the saturation advertising about Freeview HD from
the Sandy Heath transmitter - it doesnt start till April next year.

I think you're crediting the British TV buying public with greater concern for
technical details than probably 99% of them actually have. People won't think
"LED TV", even if they've any idea what "LED TV" should mean. They'll think
"That'll look good on the living room wall".
