Default Networking my Freesat to my computer help please

My Set Top Box arrived, very happy. (STB)

OK the 1st Problem

It can see my computer (WORKGROUP-BORG-PC) through the LAN connected
direct to the computer but when I try and access the computer from the
STB it asks for a user name and password.

AFAIK I have no user name or password set up. It just logs straight in.

I'm running Win7 on the Computer and the STB is a Technisat HDFS

The picture quality is brilliant.

Forget that. Just found out that they can't be networked with Win7

Are you sure? You might have to do something like create a user account on
Win7 specially for the STB. Win7 is flash but it's unlikely MS been stupid
enough to stop it networking to other machines.

Do a web search and I'm sure you'll find a way.

Check the advanced file sharing settings in the network and sharing centre
(/center). Sharing has to be turned on of course, but you can turn off the
requirement for other devices to use a password.

Technisat have admitted to a problem, saying that Microsoft changed the
CIFS protocol for Windows 7 which allowed the HDFS to gain access to
files on a PC...
