Default Panasonic DVD recorder

I have a Panasonic DVD recorder DMR E55 that will nolonger obey the remote.
It acknowleges the remote in as much as the press of any button will put a
message on the display "REMOTE DV D1" but no other action. I have put new
batteries it the remote.

This means that it is almost useless except as a DVD player as although it
will record, without access to the menus recordings cannot be 'finnished'
and so are not playable on another machine or a computer.

Does anyone know of any way I can sort this out or is it time to replace
it?

Peter

You can set the remote to use different "channels" so that you can
control multiple devices each with its own remote. You have the
DVD recorder set to channel 1 when the remote is on channel 2 or 3,
or possibly the other way round.

Press the enter button on the remote simultaneously with the 1, 2, or
3 button to change the channel it uses.

Before I spend ome money please can you confirm I can have two Panasonic DVD
recorders and set the remotes so that setting one will not affect the other?
TIA

How old is it? If all the above fails, try cleaning the remote. I had
this problem with a Panasonic remote, and I CAREFULLY unscrewed the back
and use a switch cleaner to clean the contacts with a cotton wool bud.
Be careful that you put all the bits back in the same order. Worked for me.

It's nothing to do with cleanliness. As others have pointed out, Panasonic disk
recorders have 3 channels on which their remotes can work, so that you can have
up to 3 machines with separate remotes. It would seem that the one in question
has become accidentally selected to a different channel from the recorder. The
fact that the recorder indicates something on its display when a remote button
is pressed makes it clear that the remote is transmitting a signal and the
recorder is receiving it and recognising what it is, though not acting on it.
All it needs is for both devices to be configured to the same channel.

Rod.

Yes I know all that, I've got 3 Panasonics too. Nevertheless my advice
is still valid. Old remotes DO get dirty.

Thanks VERY much Richard and everybody else that gave the same information.
It was just a matter of setting the channel to 1 and all is back working.

I have no idea how it got changed but all now well

Elderly people, and cats, are particularly good at doing this
