Default IR Control for UVERSE

I need to control a Uverse STB (Motorola 1200A) on the second floor
from the basement. Seems that my normal IR stuff does not work with
UVERSE. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bruce

Assuming the STB is an IR device, you need an IR extender. This normally
consist of an RF remote that's received by the extender and then trans
mits IR signals to the device. If the STB is an Rf device to begin with,
you just need a good programable RF remote. Google rf remotes.

Although IR, or infrared, is a long enough wavelength to fall outside the
human range of seeing, it's still light and as such needs to have a line of
sight path between the remote and the device (STB) it controls.
From the basement to a second floor location sounds unlikely.

Hello:

I did not make my self too clear. The IR stuff I usually use does not
work with the 1200A. My question is whether or not there is some after
market IR product that is compatible with the Uverse stuff.

Thanks again.

Look up the Pyramid Remote extender. Have had one for about 10 years and
works great. The transmitter unit receives the IR from the remote and sends
a signal by UHF to the receive unit which turns the UHF back to IR to
control your box. Works thru walls very well.

Also check out www.x10.com for their various remote units that extend IR and
video/audio.

Some info about this issue on this thread. The IR in these boxes do seem to
be quite tricky, for some reason.

HARMONY 880 is a powerful Remote simulator...
with a USB cable & a PC you can program the 880 for just about any
remote. Price may be in the $80 range.

U-Verse common remotes sell for $5 each on EBay.
