Copy of an email received from Sky Switchover Team
today:

"Dear D

The digital switchover reaches your area in just a few weeks - and the good
news is, as you're with Sky, your main TV is already set for digital. So,
that means:

You won't lose any of your favourite channels

You won't need to re-tune your main TV

You won't need to worry about upgrading
your aerial

Want to know more?

You can find all you need to know about the switchover on our dedicated
switchover website. For example, you may discover that other TVs and VCRs in
your house won't work once the switchover gets under way. No need to worry,
we have a solution that could be perfect for you. You'll find all the
information you need here."

I live at least 30 miles out of the Mendip service area in Worcestershire,
and although Ridge Hill reception of ITV1 West is available here, it's not
our region and RH doesn't switch until Q2 of 2010!

D.

Why would any right thinking individual want to know more
about what they do not need to do?

I meant to include that this text was accompanied by a map of the UK showing
"West" highlighted and details of roadshows at Bristol and Swindon. Both of
which are over an hour from me!

Why would Sky need a switchover team though.

Surely all they needed to do was put out one letter just before the region
went over saying.
All the systems that use our sky dish are fine, anything else may need extra
equipment, or you could purchase more boxes from us (insert cost) and then
you could enjoy your Sky service on every tv in your house.

What has digital switchover to do with Sky in any case.

They've seen it as a marketing opportunity.

I think they must be using the same pr company as Virgin. All that is
missing in that patronising text is the words 'shiny new'

They are marketing in areas that are yet to undergo DSO. The marketing
is aggressive and slyly designed to suggest that analogue tv will soon
disappear and the way to 'go digital' is to buy Sky. The wording
implies that there is no alternative.

A very nasty piece of work. I recently received an advert from
Homechoice pretending to be from United Utilities, trying to flog me
plumbing insurance. That's with the ASA at the moment.

I thought B$kyB had won the franchise to be the "switchover" team
in numerous regions to help those who were eligible for switchover
assistance (either free or GBP 40.00 payment as appropriate)?
